Official MAKEMECHIC catalogue
You cannot try any of this on before the parcel arrives, so every MAKEMECHIC card says what a photograph cannot: the neckline, the sleeve, the fabric, the colourways and the run of sizes the piece is cut in. Polka-dot bikinis, babydoll minis, halter tops, tailored shorts and the two-piece sets that go on holiday, priced from under ten dollars.

Look 0101Ten rails
Almost everything here costs between six and fifty dollars, so the price will not decide it. The piece will: a dress for the evening, a set for the trip, a bikini for the pool, a knit for the office that runs the air too cold.

03What it is made of
Everything on a MAKEMECHIC card rests on two decisions: what the fabric is, and how the cut treats a body. Both are printed. The label sewn into the piece is the document that governs washing.

The cover-ups, the beach sets and half the summer tops. The holes are the point: it goes over a swimsuit and lets the air through. It also catches on a ring, and the card does not pretend otherwise.
The sweaters, the cardigans, the maternity sets and the bodycon minis. Rib gives and recovers, and so a ribbed piece forgives a size between two letters and a woven one does not.
The going-out end of the range: sheer halters, lace bodysuits, satin slips and pants. They photograph beautifully and they want a cold wash in a bag, which is what the label will say.
The tailored shorts, the linen two- and three-packs, the cropped jackets and the over-the-belly jeans. The fabrics that survive a machine and a summer, and the ones sized by inches rather than letters.
| Fabric | How it behaves on a body | Where it earns its place |
|---|---|---|
| Crochet knit | Open, airy, stretches a little, catches on jewellery | Cover-ups, beach sets, summer tops |
| Ribbed knit | Hugs and recovers, forgives half a size | Bodycon minis, sweaters, maternity |
| Mesh and lace | Sheer by design, no give, shows what is under it | Going-out tops, bodysuits, lingerie |
| Satin | Drapes, catches light, shows every seam beneath | Slips, wide-leg pants, camis |
| Denim | Holds its shape, sized by waist in inches | Shorts, jeans, cropped jackets, vests |
| Linen blend | Cool, creases by lunchtime, softens with washing | Shorts packs, tanks, two-piece sets |
| Sequin and faux leather | Stiff, warm, no stretch unless the card says so | Micro shorts, party tops, corsets |
A fabric name describes how a piece behaves, not how long it lasts. the MAKEMECHIC way prints the fabric and the cut on every product page, one under the other.
04On a body, not on a hanger
A polka-dot bikini by the pool, a backless maxi at a wedding, a Swiss-dot halter on a Friday. What comes out of the parcel, once it is out.

05The second rail
An open-back halter in crochet, the wrap mini skirt that outsells every other skirt, a tropical two-piece and the sheer shawl sweater people keep for the plane.

06Eleven years of the same question
Will it fit, and will it look like the picture. Almost everything the MAKEMECHIC team has made since 2015 sits somewhere between those two questions.
The first thing we got right was the photograph. A dress on a hanger tells you the colour; a dress on a body tells you where the hem lands, how the halter sits at the neck and what the fabric does at the waist. So every MAKEMECHIC piece is shot on a person, in the colourway being sold, and the card under it repeats in words what the picture shows: mini, halter neck, sleeveless, shirred.
The second thing took longer. A size letter is a promise only if the chart behind it is honest, and a babydoll cut and a bodycon cut cannot share a promise. So the buying page carries the chart in inches for each piece, and the fitting guide on this page tells you which three numbers to take before you trust a letter. A body that is a Medium in a swing dress and a Large in a satin slip is not a problem to be solved. It is what bodies are.
What we have not done is spread. Eleven years in and everyone at MAKEMECHIC still works to the same ten rails: dresses, tops, sets, bottoms, swim, maternity, knits, jumpsuits, shoes and lounge. The shapes inside them change with the season. The rails do not.
They describe the garment, not you. A Small in a ribbed knit stretches to a Medium body; a Small in woven satin does not. Hold the chart on the buying page against your own tape rather than against the letter.
07What you are choosing between
People shop this category by photograph and find out afterwards what the fabric was. Two rows below go against us: a designer piece outlasts ours, and a piece made to your measurements is a different product altogether.
| MAKEMECHIC | Designer label | Fast-fashion app | Department store | Made to measure | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it costs | Roughly six to fifty dollars a piece | Ten to twenty times more | About the same | Two to four times more | Many times more |
| Shot on a body | Every piece, in the colourway sold | Usually, on a model of one size | Sometimes, and not always the same piece | On a hanger as often as not | Not until it is yours |
| Cut and fabric printed | Neckline, sleeve, length and fabric on the card | Fabric, rarely the cut | Buried under a tab | On the label in the shop | You chose them |
| Size run shown before you click | Yes, on the card | Yes | After the colour is picked | Whatever the rail holds | One size: yours |
| Time to your door | The retail partner’s ordinary shipping | A week or two | Two to four weeks from overseas | The same afternoon | Weeks |
| The catch | A piece you will not mind spilling wine on does not feel like one you would | Losing it hurts | The photo and the parcel are cousins | The rail decides the size, not you | You wait, and you pay for the waiting |
Prices are the range across this catalogue at our last update; the other four columns describe the category rather than any one shop.
08The part that is not ours to certify
In the United States the label inside a garment answers to two federal agencies, not to a brand. Those rules are linked here rather than paraphrased into a promise.
Most clothing must carry a label naming each fibre by its generic name and its percentage by weight, largest first, plus the country of origin and who made or marketed it. A fibre under five percent is listed as "other fiber" unless it does a job, and so spandex is named on a stretch fabric.
US Federal Trade Commission, read September 1, 2026The Care Labeling Rule requires a washing or drycleaning instruction on every garment, warnings against anything a buyer might reasonably try that would harm it, and a reasonable basis in evidence for each instruction. The label has to stay legible for the life of the piece.
US Federal Trade Commission, read September 1, 2026Clothing textiles answer to 16 CFR 1610 under the Flammable Fabrics Act: a burn test, three classes, and a bar on Class 3 fabrics, which burn too fast for clothing. Makers and importers certify general wearing apparel to that part.
US Consumer Product Safety Commission, read September 1, 2026Plain-surface fabrics of 2.6 ounces per square yard or more, and any fabric made entirely of acrylic, modacrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester or wool, are exempt because years of testing showed they pass. Class 1, normal flammability, is what clothing is made of.
US Code of Federal Regulations, 16 CFR 1610.1, read September 1, 2026This section is general information about how clothing sold in the United States is labelled and regulated, not a certificate for any one piece. A fibre name on a card describes the piece as our product data carries it; the label sewn into the garment is the document that governs, and the rules linked above are the ones that govern the label.
09The rest of the counter

10The brand, in one table
Ten rails, one decision, and it is almost never the one people arrive intending to make.
People come to this catalogue with a photograph in mind and leave having changed their mind about the fabric. That is not a sales trick; it is what happens when you replace the question "do I like this dress" with the question "what is it made of and where does the hem land". A crochet cover-up at twenty dollars and a satin slip mini at forty are not the same object at two prices. One goes over a swimsuit and lets the air through. The other goes over an adhesive bra and shows every seam beneath it.
The first fork is the fabric. Read the word under the name on the card before you read the price: crochet, ribbed knit, mesh, satin, denim, linen, sequin. Crochet and ribbed knit give and forgive a size between two letters. Satin, denim and sequin do not, and they want the chart on the buying page rather than the letter you always buy. The MAKEMECHIC card prints the fabric so that you can see the fork before you take it.

The second fork is the cut. Neckline, sleeve and length are printed in words because a photograph of a halter on a model is not the same as knowing it is a halter with an open back, which is a decision about underwear before it is a decision about colour. Sleeveless is the rule across the range and long sleeve is the exception; mini outnumbers maxi by five to one; and the two-piece sets are sized as one letter for both halves.
Everything else follows from those two. Swim and cover-ups are crochet, open and unlined, for a week that has water in it. Tops and sets are where the halters and the stripes live, for a week that has a Friday in it. Knits are mid-weight and cut for fall or a cold office. Maternity is the same shapes recut with room in front. Shoes are a kitten heel, a flat and a slide, because that covers most of what a summer dress asks for.
The table below is the whole of it. Find the row that matches the week in your diary rather than the row that matches the mood, and the rail is chosen.
| Rail | The fabric, mostly | Forgives a size? | What actually decides it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dresses | Lace, mesh, satin, knit | Babydoll and shirred yes; bodycon and satin no | Where the hem lands on your height |
| Tops and bodysuits | Denim, mesh, lace, sequin | Crochet and rib yes; satin and fitted no | The neckline, and the bra it needs |
| Two-piece sets | Knit, crochet, linen | The top yes; the waistband no | One letter for two halves |
| Skirts, shorts and pants | Denim, linen, satin, sequin | Elastic waists yes; tailored no | The rise, then the length |
| Swim and cover-ups | Crochet, mesh, swim knit | Cover-ups yes; string sets no | The hip measurement, in inches |
| Maternity | Ribbed knit, denim | Yes, by design | Your pre-pregnancy letter |
| Knits and layers | Knit, ribbed knit, denim | Rib yes; open knit relaxes | Cropped or long, and the room it goes in |
| Jumpsuits, shoes, lounge | Knit, faux leather, lace | Knit yes; the rest no | Torso length, foot in half sizes, band or letter |

11Straight to a piece
Five of them get a paragraph here; the rest are one click away, and every one of those pages carries its pieces with their prices, colourways and size runs.
The bikini set is the largest single line MAKEMECHIC makes, and the polka-dot halter alone comes in more than twenty colourways. A set is sized as one letter for the top and the bottom, and the sets with swim shorts are a top and a short together. Halter is the default tie; the card says when a set is a triangle or a bandeau instead.
A hundred pieces made to go over a swimsuit: crochet mini dresses and skirts, fishnet rompers, mesh maxi skirts and the off-shoulder knit tops. Crochet is the fabric, which means the holes are the point and nothing here is lined. The plus run is deeper on cover-ups than on the bikinis they go over.
Two dresses in three on the dresses rail are minis, and they split into two families: the babydoll, swing and shirred cuts that hang from the bust and forgive a size, and the fitted halter, bodycon and satin cuts that do not. The card prints the neckline and the sleeve so you know which family you are looking at before the parcel arrives.
Seventy halter tops make this the largest line on the tops rail, and they split by what the tie does: a neck tie sets the height, a back tie sets the width, and the criss-cross does both. Crochet, mesh and sequin are the fabrics; open back is the rule rather than the exception.
A top and a bottom cut from the same cloth, priced as one piece and sized as one letter. Shorts sets and skirt sets lead, then pants sets and lounge sets; stripe is the pattern that comes up most, and the halter-and-shorts sets are the ones bought for a trip. A three-piece set says three on its card.
Shorts are two-thirds of the bottoms rail, and the rise is the word to read: high-waisted on the tailored plaid shorts, low on the micro and the track shorts. The linen shorts come two and three to a pack in gingham and stripe, priced as the pack. Forty pairs have pockets, and the card says which.
12Before you click
The commonest mistake is buying the letter you always buy. Take three numbers once, hold them against the chart on the buying page, and the MAKEMECHIC catalogue turns into a filter.
Tape level, over the bra you will wear with the piece, not pulled tight. This is the number a halter, a corset top and a fitted mini are cut to, and the chart on the buying page lists it in inches.
Not where the jeans sit: where your body creases when you lean sideways. High-waisted shorts, wrap skirts and two-piece sets are sized here, and an inch out is a whole letter.
Feet together, tape around the fullest part of the seat. A bodycon dress, a satin slip and a bikini bottom are all decided by this number, and it is the one most people guess.
When the numbers land in two letters, the fabric decides. Ribbed knit, crochet and shirred cuts forgive the smaller letter; woven satin, denim and sequin do not, and the card says which the piece is.
Mini on this shelf runs from the top of the thigh to just above the knee. The card says mini, midi or maxi and the buying page gives the length in inches; hold it against a dress you own.
A two-piece set is sized as one, so a body that is a Small on top and a Medium below should size for the bottom and expect a looser top. The maternity sets are sized by your pre-pregnancy letter.
13In their words
Printed as they came, with the piece each one names linked underneath. Two of them are complaints, and those are the two worth reading twice.
★★★☆☆
This is hands down the comfiest dress I own. The fabric is incredibly light and flowy, perfect for warm weather. I do wish the hem was better aligned; the front hangs noticeably shorter than the back when worn, which throws off the balance a bit. Also, the elastic waistband is pretty thick. A thinner band might be more flattering and less bulky. Still, it’s a dreamy everyday piece!
★★★☆☆
Cute top, description is a bit deceiving, though. Measures 26” x 26” in smallest size, completely square boxy top. Unless you’re quite short, the 0xl hits at the waist, not at all as pictured on the model displayed. I’m size 8/10, 5’7”, 145 lbs; a boxy style like this makes me look wide. I prefer a top that hits hip-length. This one is going back.
★★★★★
Super cute, comfy, and flattering!! Good thick material but still stretched in the right places. Fit was pretty good, not too short or long (not quite fingertip length), but it didn’t lay completely flat near the front seam. Very versatile for whatever setting you want, easy to dress up or down (I wore them with a fitted silky tank for a casual dinner and with a cute blazer and kitten heels for a networking event).
★★★★★
Good quality bathing suit. I’ve wore it in the ocean, pool and hot tub and its color is not faded and material is still like new. It gives my chest good support and hugs the butt snug. Very comfortable overall and fits well!
★★★★★
I wore it for family photos and it looked amazing! The only potential issue was it is definitely low cut BUT it stayed in place for me! I initially ordered the wrong size, my fault, ended up with the XSmall which is pretty true to size. It was lined so no worries about it being seethrough. The colors are more of a royal blue & purple.
★★★☆☆
A really cute top however it is not meant for bigger chested women! I bought it for a country concert and I got an XL (my typical size) and my chest is a 40D and it did not fit right. The cup sizes are just too small and my chest spills out of it but not in the cute way unfortunately!
14The Edit
How to read a size chart when you are between two letters, what the fabric on the card means for the wash and the wear, and how to build a week away out of two sets and a dress.
Bust, waist and hip, taken once with a tape, and what to do when the three numbers land in two letters. Which fabrics forgive, which do not, and how a set, a jumpsuit and a bikini each break the rule in their own way.
Seven fabrics do most of the work in this range, and each behaves differently on a body and in a machine. What the label inside a garment has to say by law, how to read a fibre line, and which pieces want a bag and a cold cycle.
Seven days, one carry-on, and the case for building the whole week out of two matching sets, one dress, a cover-up and the shoes you are already wearing. Which pieces pull double duty, which do not, and the combinations that come out of it.
15Questions people send us
Six of them, answered here in a paragraph each. Longer answers live on the rail pages and in The Edit.
Every buying button on this site opens the piece you were looking at, in the colourway you chose, at our retail partner. That is where you pick the size, where the payment, the delivery and any exchange happen, and the price you see there is the price you pay.
If you would rather see the whole range in one go, the button at the foot of every page opens the catalogue rather than a single piece.
Take three numbers once, bust, waist and hip, and hold them against the chart on the buying page rather than against the letter you usually buy. When the numbers land in two letters, the fabric decides: ribbed knit, crochet and shirred cuts forgive the smaller letter, woven satin, denim and sequin do not, and the card names the fabric so you can tell which you are looking at.
The photograph is of the colourway being sold, on a body, and the card repeats in words what the picture shows: mini, halter neck, sleeveless, shirred. What a photograph cannot show is weight and stretch, so the fabric is printed too. Where a colourway has no photograph of its own, the product page keeps the lead picture and says under it which colour is shown.
Yes. A set, swim or otherwise, is sized as one letter for both halves, and the buying button opens the set rather than a top alone. A body that is one size on top and another below should size for the half that has to hold, which on a bikini is usually the bottom, and read the chart in inches on the buying page before deciding.
By the label sewn into it, which under United States rules must carry a washing or drycleaning instruction and any warning the piece needs. As a rule of thumb, crochet, lace, mesh and sequin want a cold cycle in a wash bag or a hand wash and a flat dry, and denim and linen take a machine. The label wins over the rule of thumb every time.
Five fabrics do most of the work: crochet and open knit on the swim and summer rails, ribbed and plain knit on the sweaters, maternity and fitted minis, mesh, lace and satin on the going-out pieces, denim and linen blends on the shorts, jackets and jeans, and sequin or faux leather at the party end. The fabric on a card is what our product data says about that piece; the fibre percentages are on the label inside it.
